Sophia Colby is an amazing 5 year old little girl who has bravely battled against HLH for most of her life. Her family created a video about why they participate in Hike For A Cure and why you should consider supporting this great event.
In August of 2005, Sophia developed a fever. After a week of being seen by every specialists, Sophia's parents sat down for a family conference with an oncologist who said "We think your daughter has Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and we know she is dying."
Eight weeks of chemo, steroids, immuno-surpressants and many other supportive meds. Genetic testing was negative. Sophia's counts never truly normalized, there was always smoldering disease activity. March of 2006 she underwent Bone Marrow Transplant, with her father as her donor. May of 2006 battled a massive case of septic shock.
She continues to deal with this disease and its effects to this day, but does so with a smile and strength that inspires everyone who meets this amazing little girl.
