Seven-month old Ally was recently diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). HLH is a life-threatening immune disorder, and without treatment the average life expectancy after diagnosis is only 2 months. HLH affects 1.2 in one million children under the age of 15.
Ally is currently undergoing chemotherapy and steroid treatments. She needs a bone marrow transplant in upcoming months in order to survive. Your help is needed to spread the word in finding a donor for Ally.
Ally's ethnic background is 50% Polish, 25% Italian, 22% German, and 3% Swiss. We are making a special appeal to anyone with a similar background, as it is more likely that a donor match will be found among those who share similar ethic origins as Ally. However, even if you do not share the same background as Ally, you could still be a match for her or possibly for someone else. In the U.S. alone, 6,000 people are looking for a bone marrow donor at any given time.
You can learn more about HLH on the Histiocytosis Association of America website and how you can become a bone marrow donor on the National Marrow Donor Program website.
